MEET MICHAEL SHERMAN

My name is Michael Sherman. I am the managing partner of my law firm, Sherman & Jeffries, LLC where we practice divorce and family law. In April 2005, I attended the inaugural LexThink conference in Chicago. The purpose of that conference was to explore the questions what is the perfect law firm, and how is it created. At that conference we discussed and debated many of the issues that I had already been seeking to address in my own firm. It reaffirmed my desire to find the answers to those questions and to make my law practice “perfect.” Since then, I think I have made a great deal of progress in realizing that goal. I don’t claim to have created the perfect law firm. In fact, I submit that there is no such thing. By definition (mine anyway) the perfect law firm continually changes, adapts and grows (in response to the market, regulatory issues, the desires of its shareholders, etc). Nonetheless, I have found many |
| answers. Since then, I’ve helped other lawyers with their marketing and practice management - first informally (and for free!) and now formally (and for a fee - I like that model better!). | |
The purpose of this blog is to allow me to share some of the things that I have learned and continue to learn about the leading practices in the business of law. Too many lawyers are dissatisfied in our profession. Many lead Thoureau’s proverbial life of quiet desperation. They are stuck in a profession that often seems to rank only above used car salesman in the public’s esteem. They are doing work they no longer enjoy, for people they don’t like, making less profit than they deserve.
I have spent hundreds of hours reading, researching and experimenting in my own practice to transform my practice into one which provides me with the living and the life I want. So far as I can, I want to share the information that I have learned about designing and building the perfect law firm. I hope you profit from these efforts.
